Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions we hear from Sacramento Valley homeowners about roofing, gutters, inspections, and our services.

Roofing Questions

How long does a roof last in Sacramento, CA?

Most asphalt shingle roofs last 20–30 years in the Sacramento Valley. However, our intense summer heat (regularly 100°F+) can accelerate aging. Architectural shingles typically last 25–30 years, while basic 3-tab shingles may last 15–20 years. Tile roofs can last 50+ years with proper maintenance. Regular inspections and maintenance can significantly extend your roof’s life.

How do I know if I need a roof replacement vs. repair?

Generally, if your roof is less than 15 years old and has isolated damage (a few missing shingles, a localized leak), repair is usually appropriate. If your roof is 20+ years old, has widespread damage, or requires recurring repairs, replacement is typically more cost-effective. Our free inspection includes an honest recommendation with no obligation.

Do you offer a warranty on your roofing work?

Yes. All our roofing work comes with a workmanship warranty covering installation quality. For qualifying roof replacements using GAF certified materials, extended system warranties are also available — up to 50 years on materials and 25 years on workmanship for qualifying GAF systems. We will explain your warranty options during the estimation process.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most residential roof replacements take 1–3 days depending on roof size, complexity, and weather. A standard single-story home can often be completed in one day. We minimize disruption and always clean up completely before leaving.

What roofing materials do you work with?

We install GAF asphalt shingles (architectural and designer lines), tile, TPO membranes for flat roofs, and more. During your free inspection, our estimator will recommend materials that suit your home’s architecture, your climate zone, and your budget.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Sacramento Valley Roofing and Gutters, INC. is fully licensed (CA License #1072137), bonded, and carries both general liability and worker’s compensation insurance. We are happy to provide proof of insurance upon request before any project begins.

Gutter Questions

How often should I clean my gutters?

Most Sacramento Valley homes should have their gutters cleaned at least twice per year — once in late fall after leaves have dropped, and once in spring. Homes with pine, oak, or fruit trees overhead may need cleaning 3–4 times per year to prevent blockages.

What are seamless gutters and why are they better?

Seamless gutters are fabricated on-site from a single continuous piece of aluminum cut to the exact length of your home. Unlike sectional gutters, they have no interior joints — and since joints are the most common source of leaks, seamless gutters perform better and last longer. They also look cleaner and are available in 30+ colors.

Do gutter guards really work?

Quality gutter guards — especially micro-mesh systems — significantly reduce debris accumulation and cleaning frequency. They won’t eliminate the need for cleaning entirely, but they can reduce it from 2–4 times per year to once every 1–2 years for most homes. We carry several guard types and can recommend the right one for your tree situation.

What size gutters do I need?

Most residential homes use 5-inch K-style gutters. Larger homes, homes with steep roofs, or homes in higher-rainfall areas benefit from 6-inch gutters for greater water handling capacity. Our estimators take accurate measurements and factor in your roof pitch and drainage area to recommend the right sizing.
